NOAA EPP/MSI CESSRST Scholar Virtually Delivers Talk at The City College of New York’s Environmental Science Seminar Series
Posted on May 10, 2021 NOAA EPP/MSI CESSRST Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing graduate scholar, Veeshan Narinesingh successfully delivered a talk on April 30, 2021, at the Environmental Science Seminar Series organized by The City College of New York’s (CCNY) Division of Science. The talk was titled, ‘Atmospheric blocking: fundamentals, climate change, and response to forcing from orography.’ It related directly to Veeshan’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) mission-driven doctoral research and NOAA Experiential Research and Training Opportunity (NERTO) internship titled, ‘Understanding the Physical Characteristics of Atmospheric Blocking Using a hierarchy of General Circulation Models.’ He is conducting the research under NOAA CESSRST faculty advisor Jimmy Booth, Associate Professor at CCNY, and NOAA mentor, Dr. Yi Ming, Leader, Division of Atmospheric Physics at NOAA’s Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL).

NOAA EPP/MSI CESSRST Scholar Alumnus Bags a Job with NOAA/NESDIS/NCEI through NOAA’s New Direct Hire Authority
Posted on May 2, 2021 NOAA EPP/MSI Center for Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing (CESSRST) graduate scholar alumnus, Adedoja Adeyeye bags a job with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)/ NOAA National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS)/ National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) through NOAA’s New Direct Hire Authority. Adedoja, like other NOAA CESSRST students, became eligible for federal jobs through Direct Hire Authority, as a result of his successful completion of 12 weeks long NOAA Experiential Research and Training Opportunities (NERTO) training in a NOAA federal facility. He also completed his NOAA mission-driven master’s research titled ‘Development of Urban Hydro-meteorological Testbed (NY-uHMT) Network for New York City (NYC)’ to graduate in 2018. He conducted the research under NOAA CESSRST faculty advisor Dr. Tarendra Lakhankar, Senior Research Scientist at The City College of New York (CCNY), and Dr. Reza M. Khanbilvardi, Director of NOAA CESSRST.

NOAA EPP/MSI CESSRST Scholar Equisha Glenn Serves as the Climate Science and Applications Expert on NASA Science Live: Earth Day Episode
Posted on April 26, 2021 NOAA EPP/MSI CESSRST Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing graduate scholar Equisha Glenn served as the Climate Science and Applications Expert on National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Science Live. The episode was titled ‘Connected by Earth’ and broadcasted on Earth Day, April 22, 2021. Equisha also continues her National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) mission-driven doctoral research titled, ‘A New Framework for Detecting Coherent Floods in the U.S. for Flood Risk Management.’ She is conducting the research under NOAA CESSRST faculty advisor, Naresh Devineni, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at The City College of New York (CCNY), and NOAA mentor, Dr. Thomas M. Smith, Physical Scientist at NOAA’s Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR).

NOAA EPP/MSI CESSRST Scholar Accepts Job Offer from Integrated System Solutions Inc. to Support NOAA’s Technology, Planning, Integration for Observation Division
Posted on March 22, 2021 NOAA EPP/MSI CESSRST Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing graduate scholar, Ishrat Jabin clears the selection process to receive a full-time job offer from Integrated System Solutions Inc. (ISS) to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Technology, Planning, Integration for Observation (TPIO) division. She will begin working as a Scientific Support Analyst from June 2021. Ishrat is currently pursuing her NOAA mission-driven research titled, ‘Analyzing the Climate and Human Impact of Cash Crops on Select California Watershed.’ She is conducting the research under NOAA CESSRST advisors, Dr. Valerie Were, Social Science Lead, and Dr. Indrani Pal, Research Scientist and NOAA mentors Dr. Laura Newcomb, Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR) and Dr. Meka Laster, Program and Policy Analyst, OAR.

Posted on March 1, 2021 NOAA EPP/MSI CESSRST Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing graduate scholar, Timothy Aaron Medina successfully presented his research titled ‘Making an Education Campaign on the Environmental Impacts of Microfiber’ at Fridays For Future, New York’s (FFFNYC) Climate Speaker Series on December 19th, 2020. He also won the Best Student of the Year Award for community outreach at the virtual 2020 NOAA CREST Day.
