The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Center for Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing Technologies (CESSRST) launched its first online publication, CESSRST Journal of Student Research (JSR) on March 11, 2021. The journal is intended to communicate student research to NOAA, the Cooperative Science Centers (CSC) community, external collaborators and stakeholders, and the general public. Its purpose is also to hone students’ writing and reviewing skills to better prepare them for a professional career. Expanding on JSR’s objectives, Dr. Jorge E. Corredor, Distinguished Research Scientist, NOAA CESSRST and member, JSR Editorial Board said, “Scientific publication is one of the most important tools for professional advancement in environmental science, social science, and engineering. Publication in JSR will help CESSRST students to hone their writing skills that will further help them publish peer-reviewed journal articles.”
Publishing in JSR is only open to CESSRST students (and faculty) or one of its three sister Centers through NOAA’s Educational Partnership Program with Minority-Serving Institutions. CSC students from bachelor’s to doctorate and Summer Bridge interns are eligible to contribute as first authors.
