Posted on November 8, 2021 National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Educational Partnership Program with Minority Serving Institutions (EPP/MSI) Center for Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing Technologies (CESSRST) Graduate Fellow, Laura Bayona-Román’s article ‘Mechanisms for Enhancing Tsunami Disaster Resilience’ was recently published in the National Tsunami Hazard Mitigation Program Tsulnfo Alert. Commenting on the achievement, Laura said, “It feels great to accomplish something like this. Posted on July 26, 2021 NOAA EPP/MSI Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing graduate scholar, Karla Lopez will be joining the WSB in August 2021 as a Graduate Engineer in the Water Resource Group. She also continues her National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) mission-driven master’s research titled, ‘Environmental Justice Issues and Sea Level Rise in Frontline Communities Along the Gulf Coast.’ She is conducting the research under faculty advisor, Dr. Ivonne Santiago, The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), NOAA Experiential Research & Training Opportunities (NERTO) mentors, Dr. Chris Ellis, and Brenna Sweetman, Social Scientists with NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management and NOAA CESSRST mentor, Dr. Valerie Were, Social Science Lead.

Lautenbacher, Jr. Public Service Scholarship recipient, Wendy Prudencio pursues her passion for community service by volunteering at Potomac Riverkeeper Network (PRK) and Ocean Conservancy. She also continues her NOAA mission-driven doctoral research titled, ‘The Impact of Resource Distribution After Hurricane Maria in Coastal Areas in Puerto Rico.’ She is conducting the research under National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration-Center for Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing Technologies (NOAA CESSRST) faculty advisor Fernando Tormos-Aponte, Assistant Professor of Public Policy at The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC).
