NEW YORK—September 08, 2021-On August 1, 2021, The City College of New York (CCNY) administration announced the appointment of Dr. Fred Moshary as the new director of NOAA Cooperative Science Center for Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing Technologies (CESSRST). Dr. Moshary succeeded Dr. Reza Khanbilvardi who served as the director of NOAA CREST (2001-2016) and NOAA CESSRST (2016-August 2021) for 20 years.
In this role, Dr. Moshary will provide overall oversight of Center’s key deliverables through strategic planning and execution of Center’s administration, education, and scientific research outcomes, in alignment with NOAA EPP/MSI program priorities.
Dr. Moshary joined CCNY in 1992 and ever since, has held various positions within the institution. In addition to serving as NOAA CESSRST’s Director, he is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at Grove School of Engineering, CCNY, and Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences at The Graduate Center, City University of New York (CUNY). Also, he leads CCNY’s Optical Remote Sensing Lab and is currently working on active and passive remote sensing of the atmosphere with applications to atmospheric dynamics, air quality, and climate change.
