NOAA EPP/MSI CESSRST Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing undergraduate scholar, Caroline Schwab wins the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship (2021-2022). She also continues her NOAA mission-driven research titled, ‘Projecting Drought and Farm Production in the United States.’ She is conducting the research under NOAA CESSRST faculty advisors, Naresh Devineni, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at City College of New York (CCNY), and Dr. Tarendra Lakhankar, Senior Research Scientist at CCNY.
The scholarship award includes academic assistance (up to $9,500 per year) for two years of full-time study and a 10-week, full-time paid ($700/week) internship at a NOAA facility during the summer. By focusing on honing her research paper and project, working diligently on her personal statement, and being confident and clear in her goals, Caroline assured that she was well prepared to apply and receive this scholarship. Feeling excited about the opportunity, Caroline said, “I plan to use the scholarship to cover my housing costs and the internship will help me gain valuable experience in NOAA mission science and social science that will prove beneficial when I apply for a Ph.D.”
