NOAA EPP/MSI CESSRST Scholar Equisha Glenn Serves as an Expert on NASA Science Live

NOAA EPP/MSI CESSRST Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing graduate scholar Equisha Glenn served as the Climate Science and Applications Expert on National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Science Live. The episode was titled ‘Connected by Earth’ and broadcasted on Earth Day, April 22, 2021. Equisha also continues her National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) mission-driven doctoral research titled, ‘A New Framework for Detecting Coherent Floods in the U.S. for Flood Risk Management.’ She is conducting the research under NOAA CESSRST faculty advisor, Naresh Devineni, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at The City College of New York (CCNY), and NOAA mentor, Dr. Thomas M. Smith, Physical Scientist at NOAA’s Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR).

The episode focused on ‘connections-to our planet and to each other.’ It also discussed climate change: what it is, how it has impacted life on Earth and how NASA studies the phenomenon. The topic is close to Equisha’s heart and has inspired her research through NOAA CESSRST funding and recent collaboration with NASA. Elaborating on her motivation to participate in the Science Live, Equisha said, “I have a keen interest in science communication. Additionally, I always look for different ways to engage with the public. My research helps me expand my understanding of how climate change is impacting cities and the ways we can mitigate those impacts. I feel, this is a pressing issue that our society is dealing with and through NASA Science Live, I wanted to continue to educate people on it.”
