About JSR

Purpose and Scope

The CESSRST Journal of Student Research (JSR) is a limited-circulation virtual publication intended to communicate student research to NOAA’s Cooperative Science Centers (CSC) community, external stakeholders, and the general public. The journal is intended to divulge CSC science while honing student writing and reviewing skills to better prepare them for a professional career.

CSC students including bachelor’s to Ph.D. and summer bridge students are eligible first authors. Original research by CSC students on environmental or societal aspects of science aligned to the NOAA enterprise is required. Occasional review monographs may be commissioned by the Editorial Board.

Journal Format

The Journal will be a continuing online publication so that papers will be published immediately upon review and acceptance. It is expected that 8 – 12 papers will be published during the academic year.

Editorial Board

  1. Dr. Nir Y. Krakauer, Acting CESSRST Distinguished Research Scientist

Review Process

The Editorial Board shall select student peer reviewers from among the CESSRST student body. Reviewers shall undertake a rigorous and fair evaluation of the manuscript and are expected to provide constructive suggestions that improve the manuscript. Student reviewers should solicit assistance in preparing their reviews from CESSRST faculty. The journal Editor, in consultation with the Board, will select final manuscripts for publication.
