Andrea Gomez Successfully Defends Thesis to Become First NOAA CESSRST Fellow to Complete PhD
Posted on April 9, 2020 Andrea Gomez successfully defended her doctoral thesis Wednesday, April 1, to become the first NOAA CESSRST Fellow to earn her PhD and, because of the coronavirus pandemic, the first candidate to present her defense remotely. Dr. Gomez is a Cohort I NOAA EPP funded graduate fellow of the Center for Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing Technology (CESSRST). She is based at The City College of New York, and she will receive her degree from the Graduate Center, CUNY, in Earth & Environmental Science. NOAA CESSRST is a NOAA EPP/MSI funded program under award NA16SEC4810008.

Posted on March 12, 2020 NOAA CESSRST Fellow Joshua Hrisko won first place for best oral presentation in the 15th annual Symposium on the Urban Environment at the American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting, January 16. His topic was “Quantifying the Heat Stored in Urban Environments Using Remote Sensing Technology.” The Manhattan resident is a 4th-year PhD candidate at City College of New York majoring in mechanical engineering.

Posted on December 19, 2019 A multinational team of data scientists led by Dr. Indrani Pal, NOAA-CREST research assistant professor at The City College of New York, is participating in the 2020 California Water Data Challenge. The program, held each fall, showcases innovative ways that data can be used to address issues affecting water resources in the United States’ most populous state. From more than 50 submissions, only a dozen teams get invited to present their projects.
