GeoInformatics Seminar: Uncovering Complex Spatial and Graph Relationships: On Database, Big Data, and Cloud
Date: March 15, 2017 — Time: 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM
Where: Hunter College, 695 Park Ave, New York, NY (room 1004 Hunter North)
Please join us for the third presentation in our GeoInformatics seminar series this semester. Please RSVP as we might have to find a bigger room is this presentation attracts a wider computer science-related audience.
Abstract:
Spatial and Graph analysis is about understanding relationships. As applications and infrastructure evolve, as new technologies and platforms emerge, we find new ways to incorporate and exploit social and location information into business and analytic workflows, creating a new class of applications.
This time, we will have two presenters, our own alumnus Steven Serra, and a big name in spatial databases: Dr. Jayant Sharma.
Presenter Bios:
Steven Serra, Senior Director of Engineering , Oracle Spatial and Graph Technologies. He has been responsible for the development of Oracle’s spatial technologies for over 16 years and currently heads product development of Oracle’s Spatial, Graph, and Semantic technologies as well as a number of Oracle’s Big Data technologies. Mr. Serra joined Oracle in 1996 as Director of Product Development for Data Base Integration products. Prior to that, he held positions at Digital Equipment Corporation and ChemBank NY.
Dr. Jayant Sharma is Director, Spatial Product Management at Oracle. He has over twenty years experience in databases and spatial information systems. He is currently focused on the product strategy, and design, of spatial components for Oracle’s database and middleware products, and on applications using these components.
