NOAA CESSRST students and staff attended the 9th Biennial Education and Science Forum, which was hosted by the NOAA Cooperative Science Center in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology at Howard University, D.C. The event, which was held from March 18 – 21 in Washington, was an opportunity for the Cooperative Science Centers to showcase collaborative research and education between faculty and students at EPP-funded Cooperative Science Centers and NOAA scientists. Accordingly, the Forum brought together students, researchers, and staff from the four Centers that NOAA funds and NOAA staff including Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudet (U.S. Navy, retired), the recently appointed Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and Acting Undersecretary for NOAA.
The forum provides a venue to present research findings, discuss new engagement opportunities, and to promote career opportunities for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) graduates with academic, government, and private sectors. CREST students presented their work through oral and poster presentations during the event's Technical and Poster Sessions. Although the weather cut short the Forum, the event was a success and we look forward to the 2019 gathering!
