NOAA CESSRST Collaborative Research

The Cooperative Science Center for Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing Technologies brings together world class research capabilities for remote sensing technology consisting of: exemplary faculty and research staff; advanced computational facilities; instrumentation for direct readout of satellite data and/or calibration validation; state-of-the-art remote sensing technology development for satellite and surface-based remote sensing and in situ sensor systems. These capabilities drive an ambitious research agenda for new applications of remote sensing, advancing the understanding of Earth system processes, and improving environment particularly weather predictions. CREST research is focused on four proposed themes: Coastal Resilience, Atmospheric Hazards, Water Predictions, and Ecosystem Services.

The research is designed to support NOAA’s scientific and operational priorities, which include its Next Generation Strategic Plan, NOAA Observing & Prediction Priorities (Deputy Under Secretary Brown Guidance Memorandum), NOAA Research and Development Priorities (NOAA Chief Scientist’s Strategic Research Guidance Memorandum), and NESDIS Priorities (AA S. Volz Guidance Memorandum).
