Research Title: Identifying Chemical Compounds of Microfiber Petroleum Concentrations Located at the Coastline of the Hudson River "working title"

Research Synopsis: The purpose of this research study is to measure the level of awareness New Yorkers have about marine textile debris and evidence of these fragments found in the Hudson River during 2016 using a survey. After the responses are analyzed, educational content about pollution caused by the garment industry will be developed for a campaign with collaborators from NOAA. If the projected responses on a geospatial map indicate level of awareness is low in a community of low income, then we should expect a higher amount of microfiber near that area. The demographic analysis and map projections will help us to understand microfiber distribution along the Hudson River Estuary and provide adequate educational content for the audience on microfiber pollution and its impacts.
