Research Title: Climate Change in Puerto Rico: How is it managed from a public policy perspective?
Research Synopsis: The research consists first, in the analysis of the Climate Change Law of Puerto Rico and its evaluation between: adaptation and mitigation. Also, through several interviews with people within the board that is responsible for ensuring compliance with the law, information will be obtained with context on the implications of this law on the island. As part of the search for information on the subject, the effects that climate change is expected to cause in Puerto Rico are shared, including changes: in temperature, precipitation, extreme events, among others.
Through a literature review, information is being collected on the findings of empirical cases and studies conducted on natural hazards risk communication and public response to it. To organize the information of each article, annotations are created, in which data on the methodology, findings, and conclusions are summarized. Particular interest is giving to summarizing the factors that promotes or limits successful risk communication within different settings and with different users. Moreover, recommendations for agencies and the general public, and discussions of the author(s) on the subject of risk communication are mentioned, specifically on how risk communication can be improved for the benefit of the communities, and therefore, of society. The information is being organized as part of an Annotated Bibliography and will be used to develop a literature review section and to assist on analyzing the findings of a study on atmospheric hazards risk communication in Puerto Rico.
