Research Title: Understanding climate influence on food security
Research Synopsis: With the world population estimated to grow from 7.7 billion in 2019 to 9.7 billion by 2050 (United Nation Department of Economic and Social Affairs), the demand for food will be higher compared to today. That is an increase of 2 billion in just 31 years. In the United States, the population will increase by 110 million people by 2050 (from 327.2 million in 2018 to 438 million in 2050). How are we going to feed that amount of people with the same cultivated area? Are we going to meet the demand of food by supply in the future given climate change rates? Do we have to change farming techniques and think of other ways to produce more food? This research will exploring strategies that will help farmers produce enough food to meet the future demand.
