Research Title: Using GOES-16 Satellite Data that provides insight on the Urban Heat Island Effect of Major Cities across the United States.

Research Synopsis: This project aims to analyze areas of major urban environments in the U.S. like New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. and spatially characterize the Urban Head Island effect. GOES-16 satellite data will provide Land Surface Temperature (LST) for these urban locations and a stochastic air temperature model will be constructed to estimate the urban and rural air temperatures. We will also use geospatial tools in order to analyze the spatial characteristics of temperatures within these urban areas and visualize the potential impact upon its residents. The results from this project would allow urban communities to find ways to reduce the effect of the Urban Heat Islands and improve different communities in sustainable ways.
